A Dry Run for the Classic

Bun Run Sun 25th March.
Tim declared this morning the Bun Runners should road test the Iveagh Spring Classic Route, the club’s feature event scheduled for Sun 8 April. With over 4000ft of climbing it was a good job Kevin had stocked up on extra protein, carbs and liquid, IMG-20180325-WA0009the night before in the form of Baboos Indian take away, and was fully rehydrated by the acompanying red wine. At least he had an early night! With Rathfriland Hill quickly dispensed with, it was the Boiling Well next and the the infamous Windy Gap, which thankfully was not windy. We took the new Spring 50 route via Leitrim and onwards to Clonvaraghan, then it was back up Slieve Croob – that is a big climb for me. Finnis greeted Kevin with a puncture, as did Waringsford for Tim. Tubeless and unfed we managed to find another steep ramp just outside Waringsford which would have been rude not to climb! The Gall Bog was a welcome sign we were nearing home. Earlier start than usual due to the Hour going forward and a bit later than usual due to the punctures! Groveling had to be done back at home (Kevin blamed Tim – Tim blamed Kevin and I think we got away with it)! 49 miles and 4300 feet of climbing through truely stunning scenery – who says there’s no hills in this place!
