The Spring Sixty Sportive (Camlough CC)
My first venture out on the roads this year after hiding away all winter was the 60km Sportive on Sunday 11th March in Camlough. This year’s charity was the Autism Families Support Group.
After registration, a few final checks, a bit of banter and the safety announcements, it was off we went shortly after 10am. Weather was cool but dry with everyone well wrapped up.
We left St Paul’s School, past Camlough lake and headed for the Mountain House pub where we turned left and headed for Forkhill. Then we dropped into Dundalk and onwards to Fitzpatrick’s Restaurant at the halfway point and were refreshments were supplied. They put on a great hot soup just what was needed at this point on the cold day.
After Fitzpatrick’s it was straight into a climb up through Ravensdale and back to Camlough where plenty of food options were available, chicken curry and rice, pasta, sandwiches, etc. Also everyone got a medal for the collection.
Great craic was had by all on the route with over 500 taking part in the run. There were a high number of punctures along the way but I was lucky enough to escape this misfortune. Support was supplied by Cycleology.
Huge credit to Camlough CC for organising a first class event and as always a very well marshalled route. I’m already looking forward to their Hog Run in August.
