VCI Club Rides 16/17th September

Now that the racing season has drawn to a close, numbers on the club rides are set to rise.

Saturday club rides 16th we had as normal an A and B ride setting off from Scarva tea rooms, the normal 9.03 and the Leisure group.

For the first half of Saturdays run saw Jenny and Claire on an early spin in from Lurgan to Scarva via dollingstown, Waringstown and Gilford. Having survived the sneaky hills on the Clare Road and managing not to cause any accidents!…We arrived at Scarva in time to wave off the 9.03 team of Davy and Mervyn, while we enjoyed coffee and a scone and returned to Lurgan via Portadown and Oxford Island…..

The 9.03 consisted of Davy and Mervyn with the rest of the guys racing the Lucan GP.

After a detailed lesson on VCI colour coordination from Claire the guys headed out takingin Gilford, Bleary, Craigavon, Laurvale, Mullaghbrack with the coffee stop a The Old Court House  Markethill. Full sodas were the order of the day and massive, also a first for Mervyn they were served with chips…yes you heard it right chips. After their feed they need to burn off them extra cals so they continued into South Armagh swinging by the Chairmans Mansion and back to Scarva via Newry and Rathfriland.

The Sunday Bun Run saw some new and old faces back in action, this was Wendys first experience of the bun run and she tells us how it went below.

We headed for Newcastle via Rathfriland and Hilltown along to Bryansford and stopped off at Olive Bizarre for bite to eat. It was my first bun run and the weather was cracking…a few Apollo members ended up tagging along from Rathfriland and even though I fell back a wee bit on the Bryansford road I managed to hang in with them for most of the way there.

After our stop off we headed for Dundrum and then over the hills to Dromara, Kinallen and home. Challenging route for me but really enjoyed it and looking forward to another Sunday run soon.
