Last night VC Iveagh had members taking part in two different 10 mile time trials. Mark, Johnny, Gordy, William and Davy took part in the Banbridge Hosted Tommy White Memorial on the Warrenpoint Carriageway. The weather had been perfect all day up until the event and around 6.30 heavy rain started and with the rain came the wind, it didn’t stop the guys who all took their positions on the start line. Johnny and William both recording PB’s with Mark, Gordy and Davy only a handful of seconds off their PB’s.
- Mark Johnston – 22.41
- Johnny Burns – 22.42
- William Strain – 23.25
- Gordan Brown – 23.53
- David Cartmill – 25.10
Also on the road was the Rocket Seffen who headed to Ballymena to take on a new 10 mile course on the frossess road hosted by Ballymena Road Club and it proved to be correct choice being a very fast night, he give us his account below.
Having heard great reports about the new course that Ballymena Road Club host on the Frosses Rd on the new A26, I’ve been targeting this one since July. But a combination of poor weather & conflicting dates with VCI club races have resulted in me not being able to attend the last two events. Then when I heard that the Irish junior record was broken on the course two weeks…I thought one last chance of a PB for 2017. However as I sat in the Applegreen at 5pm & watched the rain bouncing off the ground; I thought…’well that’s 2017 finished!’. However the clouds cleared, it dried up & the wind died down-race back on! With a disrupted warm-up due to the roller digging into the gravel in the car park the tension was building; but once on the course the legs did what they haven’t done since a year ago…new personal best by 7seconds, 21.20minutes for 10miles! Well pleased & now the training needs adjusted to break the into the 20minutes club.
Thanks goes to Banbridge CC and Ballymena Road Club for hosting both events which ran smoothly and safely even with the bad weather.
Well done to all members on those PB’s!
