David Cartmill and Gordan Brown took part in The John McNally Sportive this morning hosted by Portadown CC, davy gives us a few words on how things went.
This morning VC Iveagh members arrived in portadown for the John McNally sportive hosted by Portadown CC. There was a great sence of comradery during registration and under the CRC gazebo where pre event bike adjustments where being carried out by the CRC mechanics. It was also great to meet many of my “Long Way Home” sportive friends and catch up on what new bikes they had etc. During the pre event briefing we got handed an information card with emergency contact details and route map on the back was a great idea, it was explained that there were two routes and that the 60 mile had a number of different speed categories so we chose the 18 mph plus group and it didnt disappoint, as soon as we turned onto the Mahon road it was a steady 22 avg all the way to warrenpoint. On arrival it was everyone for them selves as we were met with a spread of various sandwiches, traybakes and a choice of Lucozade or water. Onwards to the main climb of the day, reedhall, at this point my legs said no more so i had to let the racing crew go on without me. The route was marshall by what i would say some of the best motorcycle outriders ive seen, all making it a safe and plesent event. Back at the rugby club we were well fed with outside catered burgers and hotdogs. Well done Poradown CC.
