In the midst of the summer riders should now be reaching their peak conditioning, times from each event get faster with no let up in competitiveness. Event eight in the 2016 VC Iveagh calendar was a second visit to the popular Plantation Road course, with the previous visit in early May. On a cloudy evening which thankfully stayed dry, a crosswind was the only concern as 30 participants turned out to test themselves on this tricky road.
On our last visit to the Plantation Road a course record was set and with the new record holder making a return, we were all curious to see what he could do this time around. Once again riders set of at the allotted 7pm schedule with one minute intervals between each.
As the riders returned the times started to tumble and that man Chris McGlinchy of Chain Reaction Cycles was at it again, he shaved a further four seconds of his previous time, posting a new record of 21.23. Unfortunately thing a van held McGlinchy up as he was nearing the finish and we have no doubt he would have dipped well into the low twenties, next time Kipper.
Local rider Rodney Stewart was next quickest with a very respectable 23.13 followed by Davy McKnight in 3rd with a time of 23.33. Fastest club rider on the night was the consistent Neil ‘Rocket’ Seffen whom posted 23.56.
This was the sixth event in the VC Iveagh Race League, with full results now published in the Club Race League page. Our thanks as ever to all those who continue to support our events, and to all our marshals timekeepers and admin teams, who as ever do a fantastic job.
once again thanks to all the local clubs for supporting the event, much appreciated!
